Out of Space, Out of Time

The clock is ticking. We are out of time. The lease in our present building is up in 2014. In two short years we need to move, renovate a building and raise the funds to operate it. We are out of space. Over the past few years, the use of the library has increased, but we have no more space for expansion. Over 6,000 people have used the library in the last year! No books, magazines, or newspapers can be added without removing another – one book in means one book out.

We’re bigger than books. In an age of information, libraries of the 21st century are depositories of knowledge in print and increasingly online. To meet the needs of patrons now and into the future, we need far more space for far more computers with high speed access available free to everyone in the Reed City area. We need a community meeting room big enough to hold all who take advantage of the programs for adults, children and teens. We need small rooms for quiet reading, study and tutoring. We need workspace for staff to process materials.
Chestnut Street location now

The future home of the Reed City Public Library will be in the former administration building of the Reed City Area Public Schools on South Chestnut Street. Our goal is to renovate and expand this building to provide more space for books, computers, study areas and a larger community meeting room. This larger facility, increasing our size, will also require increased operating funds.

Will you help our community library to serve us in the 21st century?
